The storm that raged across the Cape Peninsula last week, which brought welcome rain to the parched landscape, also wrought a great deal of damage, and the Helderberg did not escape unscathed. Biodiversity area co-ordinator for the Helderberg, Owen Wittridge, sent Bolander these photographs of the grievous damage to the much-loved and venerable old oak trees in the Helderberberg Nature Reserve, caused by the high winds that lashed the area last Tuesday night.
