Staff of Masincedane, an NPO in Strand, are challenging the Helderberg community to spring into shape for the season. Sister Althea Lewins, a registered nurse, suggests that an impact in fitness can be made by simple changes like walking or cycling instead of using the car, doing sit-ups, push-ups and swimming, and gardening and household chores like washing windows. Exercise triggers chemical changes in the brain, that helps with processes like stress prevention, and body system regulation. In addition, it helps reduce your risk of heart attack, lowers blood cholesterol and high blood pressure, lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes and can increase energy levels. “As a Helderberg community outreach team leader it is my responsibility to ensure the wellness of the community, therefore I embarked on a Spring into Shape campaign,” says Sister Lewins.
