The annual sports day of the Helderberg Stroke Support Group (HSSG) was held at the Macassar New Civic Hall on Friday September 20. The event, which is the brain child of Martin Haas, chairperson of the Macassar Stroke Rehabilitation Group, brings together all the HSSG Community Rehabilitation Groups for a morning of sports activities. Teams of stroke survivors and people with disabilities from Macassar, Strand, Lwandle, Nomzamo, Zola, Sir Lowry’s Pass and Grabouw participated, and a special invitation was extended to members of Bridging Ability and to the Macassar Bowling Club. The overall winner of the event was the Grabouw Stroke Rehabilitation Group, and they also won the trophy for the winner of the event for teams for people with disabilities. Bridging Ability finished in second place, and the Lwandle/Nomzamo/Zola Stroke Group finished in third place. The trophy for the best team spirit went to the Strand Stroke Group. The trophies were presented by Alex von Klopmann, managing director of CSV Construction, which recently hosted a golf day where HSSG were the beneficiaries. HSSG also thanks In2Food, Strand, for their donation of refreshments.
