A nail-biting rescue by officials from the Cape of Good Hope SCPA last week in inclement weather rescued a distressed dog and brought it to safety.
As per the information on the SPCA’s website SPCA officials discovered trapped on a water hyacinth beside the busy N2 freeway near Old Faure.
Undeterred by the adverse conditions, the dedicated team waded into the cold water. As they approached, the stranded dog began to wag its tail and whimper with hope, evidently recognising the arrival of its rescuers.
Inspectors Rowan Davids and Lwazi Ntungele, along with their colleagues onshore, coordinated flawlessly to secure the frightened dog. With great care, they navigated through the water and safely brought the dog to dry land.
Now under the warm and watchful care of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, the dog nicknamed River, enjoys a cosy bed and nourishing meals—a stark contrast to its recent ordeal.
This rescue highlights the vital role of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s inspectors and the critical need for community support. The SPCA’s efforts to save and protect animals rely heavily on the generosity of the public.
The team also requires essential equipment to conduct such life-saving operations effectively.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA asks for public assistance with donations of blankets, dry dog and cat food, oathay for horses and horse blankets for animals rescued in the inclement weather.
Donations can be dropped off at PetShop Science stores at Fairbridge Mall, Durbanville, N1 City, Old Paarl, Plumstead, Boulevard Square Protea Heights, Rondebosch, Blue Route Mall Tokia and Checkers Bayside Mall. Financial donations can be made online at capespca.co.za/
