The fire at Somerset Mall on Wednesday night was extinguished without damage to the mall or injuries, says the City fire department.
Videos and pictures of the fire were posted on social media.
The fire in two generators was extinguished by 11.45pm after the call came in at 10.30pm, said City Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
“The first arriving officer from Strand confirmed it was two generators alight at the rear of the receiving bay of the shopping complex.”
He said 25 personnel along with six firefighting appliances and a specialised vehicle had responded to the scene.
The mall’s marketing manager, Mel Jeffries, said trading was continuing as per normal.
