Twins, Franco and Frances Carstens, in Grade 12 at Somerset College, have both being selected to play for the South Africa under-18A men’s and women’s hockey teams, which competed against Australia in a test series in July. Sam Henderson, Grade 10, was selected for the under-16B team, who competed against teams from Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Franco was the vice-captain of the Boland under-18A team, which won bronze at the IPTs. Frances and Meghan Johnston, Grade 12, both played in the Boland under-18A team and, their teamwon gold at the IPT.
Frances, who captained the under-18 team, was awarded player of the tournament (she is also head girl at Somerset College).
