Somerset College hosts an annual cricket dinner in aid of its cricket bursary fund, which awards bursaries to promising cricketers in the area, giving them the opportunity to study at Somerset College. The 2019 fundraising event recently took place at Erinvale Golf Club, and included the presentation of awards to the senior school cricketers, with guest speakers Stiaan van Zyl, ex-national cricketer; Faye Tunnicliffe, class of 2016 and current national cricketer; and Omar Henry, ex-national player, national selector, and ex-captain of Scotland. The guests were lead in conversation by Somerset College parent, Anthony Geard, to share insights into their own rise to national cricket, elaborating on both positive and negative experiences along the way; as well as their thoughts on world cricket. Appreciation was expressed for the work done by the Somerset College cricket committee, under the chairmanship of Bruce Henderson. Top awards were for the best batsman in the first team, Andrew Whaits, who scored 643 runs at an average of 54; and best bowler in the first team, Gillad ben Oved, who took 31 wickets.
