Strand Surf Lifesaving club’s masters competed at the 2017 Lifesaving SA Surf Master Nationals, held at Camps Bay last weekend, and walked away with a total of 20 medals. Sam Hucke won a silver medal in the female beach flags, surf swim and beach sprint events, and won gold in the female Malibu event.
Shandor Cylvan came third in the male beach flags and surf ski event. Shandor was in the male double ski team (35 to 39 age group), with Jamii Hamlin who won gold for this event. Shandor and Jason Love won a silver medal for the 35 to 39 age group board rescue event.
Jamii Hamlin won the surf ski event and placed second in the male Malibu event, and third in the Iron Man event for the 45 to 49 age group. Jamii and Daantjie Malan won a silver medal for the 45 to 49 age group board rescue event.
Daantjie came third in the 2km beach run, flags and Malibu board events, and won the single ski event for the 55 to 59 age group. Daantjie also won the double ski team event with Gary Pepler teammate.
Gary won silver medals for both the Malibu board and single ski event for the 60 to 64 age group.
Shandor, Jamii and Daantjie won silver for the male beach relay event.
