The 2022 season of the popular beach rugby tournament, the Six Gun Grill Hot Summer of Touch series, has kicked off with the first event hosted at Camps Bay beach on Sunday December 4.
Teams are gearing up and preparing to battle with each other for the coveted title in five sections, including Pro, Open, Junior, Ladies, and Challenger. Each team boasts a host of exciting players that are sure to set the scenes alight when the action gets underway.
The series follows the coastline with the first-time hosting beach, Macassar on Sunday December 11, before a trip to neighbouring Strand beach, on Sunday December 16, which according to tournament organisers, has always been known to attract a massive crowd.
Then after leaving local shores, the teams will travel to Kleinmond on Sunday December 18, to Struisbaai on Friday December 23, and will be in Stillbaai on Boxing Day (Monday December 26) with the final two events taking place on Wednesday December 28 and Friday December 30 at Diaz Beach and Hartenbos respectively.
“Following the cancellation of the 2021 series, mid-way through, we are excited that there are no unusual limitations ahead of this year’s series. We do not want to keep referring to the global effects that the covid-19 pandemic had on sporting events, but it altered the spirit of this event and so many others and we’re looking forward to welcoming spectators and all the ‘gees’ they bring,” says Six Gun Grill Hot Summer of Touch series tournament director, Grahame Bobrow.
“The 2022 Six Gun Grill Hot Summer of Touch series would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors and partners. Beach touch rugby has developed and grown into an institution that sees thousands of beachgoers attending and following the events all along with the coast,” he adds.
The tournament organisers are excited that the country’s top beach touch rugby teams have confirmed their participation in the 2022 edition of the series.
Defending champions – the Etson’s Warriors along with other massive pro-division crowd-attracting teams including The Forward Foundation, The Reds, The Amazing Galaxy Warriors, Team Composure, The Māori Kingz, The Samurai Liberty Webb Rebels, and the Garden Route Saints.
The action on the sand gets underway from as early as 9am on each event day with teams still being allowed to enter and register their teams on the day of the event from 7.15am.
