Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or just a regular cup-a-joe lover interested in, or intrigued by the origin of coffee beans, the different taste variations flavors or pairing of the various blends; the coffee tasting and pairing experience at Villamar Restaurant and Coffee Roastery in Wellington, will be an appealing activity.
The tasting room is in a separate, sunny, cozy area of the restaurant giving you privacy and the roastery (where the Master Roaster works his magic) on the premises, within sight. Beans for the coffee tasting originate from countries such as Tanzania, Costa Rica, Uganda, Brazil, Ethiopia, Honduras, and Columbia.
During the tasting performed by waiter Delight Mpofu, he elaborates on the coffee’s origin, the operations at the roastery and the different sweet delicacies each coffee is paired with and why. The pairing consists of four coffees paired with four sweet treats and is about 20 minutes long.
The presentation is quite informal and relaxed with ample time for attendees to ask questions as the tasting continues. Mr Mpofu takes his time to share intricate details about each blend. Visitors learn more about the value chain of coffee from planting, growing, harvesting, and processing.
As a cuppa-a-day kind of person the different blends did become a bit strong and overwhelming on the palette (and stomach), at times, but I think coffee lovers will find the tasting, exhilarating with a difference.
The Villamar Restaurant and bakery produces Italian inspired dishes and confectioneries are available for purchase. Freshly baked bread and pastries in display fridges are tempting upon entering Villamar and even more so is the gelato ice cream sold in delicious flavors and available per dietary specifications.
