Radloff Park’s beloved annual Tree Planting Day will take place on Saturday May 6, from 9am to noon.
Friends and families are invited to spend a peaceful morning in nature to commemorate a lost loved one.
The initiative is run by the Friends of Radloff Park (FORP) committee, a group of volunteers whose overarching aim is to protect and preserve this beautiful public space. With the wonderful support of their local community, the hope says FORP, is to plant at least 30 new trees at this year’s Tree Planting Day.
Coming together to plant a tree brings comfort and joy, and establishes a lasting, living tribute to the beloved people and animals no longer with us. Likewise, local organisations and businesses value the chance to donate trees for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.
A variety of indigenous trees is available. The price of R250 (10ℓ size) or R500 (20ℓ size) includes a pre-dug hole, so you only have to do the planting. If you’re unable to attend, FORP can plant on your behalf.
Full details of what to bring will be provided when ordering your tree. Unique wooden memorial plaques, lovingly handpainted by local resident Annette Fickl, are available at an additional fee.
A limited number of additional trees, to be planted by the City of Cape Town at a future date, are also up for adoption at R150 each. This includes a small cement tile and paint, to create your own signage for your tree.
Trees must be pre-ordered by no later than Monday April 24. Contact Judith on 082 903 8159 or judith@planetpastel.com to secure yours.
Ensuring that the whole family is included, FORP is also proudly hosting Radloff Park’s first ever Dogs Fun Day. An easy obstacle course promises lots of laughs for both children and adults and their pooches.
Or, enter your pup in the dog show with five fun categories: Best Little One, Best Big One, Best Biscuit Catcher, Most Like Its Owner, and Fancy Dress.
Registration begins at 10am at the park ablution block. Entry costs R20 per obstacle team and R20 per show category, with proceeds donated to Kennels 4 a Cause.
Coffee and delicious snacks will be available for sale throughout the morning and visitors are encouraged to bring along cash for these sales.
