Picnic in the Helderberg

The Wandisa Team recently hosted a picnic in the Helderberg to celebrate adoption, and in support of National Child Protection Week, which ran from May 27. Debbie Wybrow, founder of Wandisa, said: “We can think of no better way to highlight the power adoption has to transform lives. Instead of facing a life of uncertainty, children are empowered through adoption to reach their potential. When we read the words “child protection”, it’s so easy to think only of the negatives of abandonment, abuse and institutionalisation, which are all around us. Adoption proactively protects children. We should be celebrating adoptive families all year round.” Ms Wybrow is currently in Washington DC in the United States, where as part of address at a conference, she will highlight the horrors of abandonment, and the heroes and heroines in our community, and share the Bolander articles on Baby Suzie and related events of infants being saved. “I appreciate the role your newspaper plays in our community,” she told Bolander via email.
