Peter de Villiers, who in last year’s municipal elections were the GOOD party’s mayoral candidate in the Drakenstein Municipality, has this week resigned from the party as councillor.
GOOD announced his resignation in a press release on Wednesday June 1. The party said: “The GOOD leadership has received and accepted the resignation of Peter de Villiers as a GOOD councillor in the Drakenstein Municipality and are pleased that he remains a member of GOOD.”
Bolander previously reported how the GOOD party surprisingly scored a third place on the voting chart in the Drakenstein Municipality after achieving a 5.84% voters score in the 2021 municipal elections. The party obtained 4 seats in council.
GOOD Media Manager, Janke Tolmay, in the statement conveyed Mr de Villiers’ notion to resign in order to spend more time with his family, after the passing of his wife, Theresa in April this year.
“Coach has resigned to focus on other endeavours and to spend more time with his family since the passing of his wife earlier this year.
“Coach remains steadfastly committed to the pursuit of social justice and we hope to see his return back to public office,” said Ms Tolmay.
The party further stated that Mr de Villiers will continue to work with the party on the projects he launched to improve sports and recreation facilities in Paarl. “He will continue to work with us to champion the projects he launched to improve access to sports and recreation facilities in Paarl.”
GOOD wished him all the best for his future endeavours and expressed their intention to continue working with him as a valued party member.
