■ Bolander’s Norman McFarlane caught these two examples of perfection in nature during a hike to the top of West Peak in the Helderberg Nature Reserve recently. This female Cape Rock Jumper (Chaetops frenatus), right, which he encountered at the beacon atop the mountain, was utterly fearless, approaching to within a half metre. This perfect, unblemished Arum lily (Zantedeschia aetheopica), below right, was nestled in a shady spot on Woodie’s Walk, a contour path which traverses the mountain, just below the cliff face.
