The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) would like to inform the public of road closures and alternative traffic accommodation schedules on the N2, Section 2 from Gordon’s Bay Intersection to Houwhoek.
These works started in May 2018 and are scheduled to be completed in September.
The asphalt overlay to the Sir Lowry’s Pass section is currently 95% complete and approximately 60% for the rest of the road.
Please take note of the following traffic accommodation arrangements on Sir Lowry’s Pass during the construction period:
Work on the inbound left lane (slow lane) is being done during daytime from 8.30am to 4pm. This means that the left lane will be closed to traffic. Motorists will use the fast lane only.
Both lanes on the outbound side towards Houwhoek will remain fully open to traffic.
The work to the joints on the viaduct on the inbound right lane will be done during night time from 7pm to 6am.
This means that both slow and fast lanes towards Cape Town will not be available during the night and all traffic will be accommodated in single lanes contraflow on the outbound side.
This process will be repeated on the outbound side once work on the inbound lanes is completed.
At the same time, a 1.7km widening work at the foot of Sir Lowry’s Pass will continue during the night and one-way traffic will be accommodated during this time, using Stop/Go traffic signals.
The maximum waiting time at these control points will be 15 minutes.
“Reduced speed limits will be enforced during the construction period and we urge motorists to observe all warning signs for their own safety, the safety of other motorists and that of the construction workers on the road. SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused,” said Randall Cable, SANRAL Western Region manager.
