Parel Vallei High School pupils achieved outstanding results at the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod, during this month, and were awarded with eight trophies, two medals, 22 Cum Laudes, 22 gold+ medals, 21 gold medals and 10 silver+ medals.
Darryan Kallis received the Phil Weber trophy for best achievement in alto recorder.
Darryan also received the Distrikbank trophy for highest individual recorder achievement; the Martha Carstens trophy for best achievement recorder: 14 years; and the Karin Maritz recorder trophy for most promising senior recorder player.
The Parel Vallei Big Band was awarded the Stellenbosch Arts Competition trophy for Jazz Orchestra (High School, Students, Open).
Matthew Marais received the Strydom trophy for best achievement, classical guitar: 17, 18 years and open, as well as the James Grace Trophy for most promising classical guitar candidate.
Natasha Schmidt received the Stellenbosch Arts Competition trophy for best achievement solo singing, 14 years; and Elena Mitchell received the Stellenbosch Arts Competition medal for best achievement, solo singing for girls 16 years.
Jenna Beavon and Elena Mitchell received the Stellenbosch Arts Competition medal for best achievement for vocal duet.
Darryzn and Matthew, and the Parel Vallei Big Band jazz band, were also invited to perform at the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod prize-winners concert on June 11.
