Live Music Sundays returns to the Delheim wine estate in Stellenbosch, starting on Sunday July 7 and ending Sunday August 25.
According to the estate, each afternoon will see a different live musical performance at the venue, featuring a diverse array of musicians and styles. This eclectic programme will range from traditional Bavarian and German music, jazz to contemporary pop covers with a bit of romantic French tossed in for good measure.
Shows will be accompanied by the estate’s cheese fondue with traditional Gluhwein served on arrival. The lunch also includes an appetiser before the fondue, coffee and dessert is served and Delheim’s range of wines will be sold at cellar prices.
On July 7, kicking off the Live Music Sundays are the Hungarian Trio (traditional French) with romance, and excitement as the strolling musicians will serenade guests Hungarian-style.
Sunday July 14, it’s the turn of Adolf Thelen with a serving of traditional German, Bavarian and Swiss Music.
Then on Sunday July 21, Hugo Veldsman will entertain audiences with contemporary classics. His incorporation of the lapsteel guitar became a favoured instrument in his arsenal, especially his signature Imperial Weissenborn.
The Nick Ford Project takes to the stage on Sunday July 28. Nick Ford, a Cape Town bassist and composer’s music ensemble presents an inspired South African jazz sound.
In August the line-up includes the Hungarian Trio (gypsy) on August 4, and The Schalk Joubert Quartet (featuring pop, rock, jazz) on August 11. Schalk Joubert is an internationally acclaimed bassist and composer known for his fusion of local styles with pop, rock and jazz, and will be teaming up with Blake Hellaby on piano and Muneeb Hermans on the trumpet. The quartet will be played by the German drummer pascal Haas. They will perform a selection of original music as well as some of SA’s finest compositions.
On Sunday August 18, Hugo Veldsman returns to the stage, followed by the Hungarian Trio again on the last Sunday of the series, entertaining audiences on August 25.
