Lesedi was born on Christmas Eve in 2015. She is a very happy child at Mila’s Angels day care centre in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
In October this year, Lesedi suffered burns to her face and hand. It was a typical shack accident: a candle fell over and set some bedclothes alight, where she slept.
Since that devastating night, Lesedi spent more than a week at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, and had to undergo two skin transplants, and still needs to travel to Cape Town once a week for follow- up care.
Lesedi’s story made the board members of Mila’s Angels NPO very thoughtful, and they did some research on how they could change the situation.
The NPO’s chairperson, Bee Lingg, found that solar was the way to go. The light source needed to be affordable, long lasting, easy to handle and effective.
The Little Sun solar lights ticked off all these characteristics, she said. The lights are designed in Germany, strongly built with high quality material. One charge gives up to 150 hours of light. And, of course, charging is free.
Mila’s Angels NPO is now looking for sponsors to equip all children at Mila’s Angels with the Little Sun solar lights.
