Lyndy Haslam, Somerset West
We have many beautiful places to visit in and around Somerset West; it’s a joy and delight to take visitors from overseas to.
One of the repeated requests from returning visitors, and one of the most looked forward to, is the walk along the river in the early evening with the dog.
Visitors are amazed at the freedom to roam, knowing that it is safe.
One of the great enjoyments is the beauty of the changing seasons and the different light on water and trees. Wondering if the rain has made a difference to the level of the water, also of great interest.
Will we bump into friends we have made, or dogs we can play tag with. Or old friends.
For some who live alone, this could be the only contact of the day or week.
Dogs need a good run, and we humans’ need a good walk.
If my dog is on a lead, then so am I. On the other end… I believe dogs on leads are more aggressive. Possibly humans too…
I agree with the comments of Giles Scott… before I had my dog, I loved walking in Radloff. Now I have my own dog, I am enjoying it even more.
Cyclists can ride all over Somerset West with freedom. There are many cycle tracks.
Please do not allow petty mindedness to spoil our beautiful walks in the special park which belongs to us who live here.
As Michiel Heyns also wrote, “Radloff Park has been a happily off-lead area for decades”.
Long may it continue.
