The annual Johnny Brown 7.5km walk will be held on Monday September 25, in support of the trauma centre at the police station.
Johnny Brown, ex-chairman of the Somerset West Community Police Forum (CPF), was loved by the community and will always be remembered for his caring and helpful attitude. This walk is to honour his memory and his contribution to the community in Somerset West.
The walk will be through the vineyards of Raithby, known for its scenic and beautiful surroundings. The walk will begin at the Raithby Sports club, off Winery Road, and meander through the valley of Raithby.
The walk is well supported by the community and walkers are encouraged to take their dogs with them. Dog walkers must have their well-behaved furry friends on leashes.
This is an ideal opportunity for runners and walkers to acquaint themselves with the beauty of Raithby and have a day out with the family. There will be many prizes on the day, and medals.
All proceeds from the walk supports the trauma centre at the police station, that gives counselling to victims of crime in Somerset West. The walk has benefited the trauma centre in that it has been able to install security systems, repair leaking roofs, repair plumbing and supply rape victims with basic survival kits.
The organisers thank the major sponsors, Helderberg Crime Watch, Immediate Medical as well as Viljoen’s Transport and the Wealthroom for their contributions.
Entry is R20, and tickets are available at KOS in the Village Walk, Main Road, Somerset West, and at the offices of HCW, The Courtyard Building, Gerber Boulevard, Gants, in the Strand.
Late entries will be accepted on the day at R30 each, from 7am.
