Parel Vallei High School Grade 12 pupil Jenna Beavon achieved a position in the Top 15 of the De Beers English Olympiad. More than 7 800 candidates nation-wide entered and wrote the examination.
Jenna has been invited to attend the 2017 National Schools Festival in Grahamstown in July, where she will take part in a four-day series of activities, workshops and shows that will celebrate English, drama and arts.
At the prize-giving ceremony in Grahamstown on Wednesday July 12, the rank order of the Top 15 of the De Beers English Olympiad will be announced, all of whom will receive certificates and prizes. The top three pupils will receive cash prizes:
R33 000 as first prize, R30 000 as second prize, and
R27 000 as third prize.
The candidates ranked four to 15 will receive cash and/or book prizes, and all candidates ranked one to 50 receive a first year, free tuition scholarship from Rhodes University.
