The Sisonke Social Circus presents Imaginaria at The Shed, Santa Road, Stellenbosch, on Friday May 25 at 6pm, Saturday May 26, at 1pm and 6pm, and Sunday June 27, at 3pm.
“Sisonke” is a Xhosa word meaning “We are together” – and exemplifies the mission of the Sisonke Social Circus.
The performers are children from all walks of life from the Boland area, representing diverse socio-economic and cultural communities, and have reached a very high level of performance and skill.
The show, directed by Jesyka Sham and Lionel Chanarin, will include comedy, drama, aerial arts such as silks, lyra and trapeze, juggling, dance, flow arts, acrobatics, adagio and much more.
Opera singer Svetlana Ivanova and singer Nadiah Charis Mony will perform during the shows, and The Palmstringlets, a children’s violinist group from an outreach project in Masiphumelele informal settlement, will also play.
This is a fundraising show and all the proceeds go to keeping Sisonke running.
Tickets are available from Quicket, and cost R120 for adults pre-sold and R150 at the door, R80 for children pre-sold and R100 at the door.
Children under two years enter free, but must sit on a parent’s lap. No prams are permitted in the seating area.
Anybody who cannot afford the ticket price, but would like to watch the show can contact sisonkecircus@gmail.com to exchange some volunteer work for tickets.
Doors will open two hours before shows start, and there will be tuck-shops, vegan food, organic hot-dogs and burgers, a market, a bar for the parents, a play zone for children and face painting.
