Parel Vallei High School’s underwater hockey player, Skye Boshoff formed part of the South African team that took part in the Underwater Hockey World Championships in Hobart, Tasmania. Skye departed on Sunday July 9, and upon arrival, the SA team had a chance to practise for a few days to acclimatise to the snowy Hobart, before the championships started at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. The SA under-19 girls competed against seven teams from around the world in their league, resulting in double round-robins, with each team facing each other twice before the final playoffs. Team SA did very well throughout the tournament playing a total of 14 games, of which they won10, lost three and drew in one game. They made it comfortably to the semi-finals, where Australia defeated SA 1-0. This left the SA team fighting for third place against Columbia, and team SA triumphed over Columbia with a 3-0 victory.
