Heavy rainfalls continue to cause havoc across the Western Cape, causing flooding and damage to properties.
Parts of Khayelitsha, Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton, Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, Nomzamo in Strand, Mfuleni, Driftsands, Masiphumelele, Dunoon, and Gugulethu are among the areas impacted.
In Gordon’s Bay and Strand some of the roads were flooded, with stormwater drains overflowing.
Dominique Kilian, who has lived in Windjammer Street for nine years, said the street floods every year during the heavy winter rains.
“Our toilet inside is pushing up all the human faeces, it’s uncomfortable and it’s not something that we can fix, it’s something that has been caused by these floods and blocked drains,” said Mr Kilian.
He said they have not been able to use their toilet since Saturday.
The City said its Disaster Risk Management Centre is assisting the Informal Settlements Management Department in its continuous assessments, which aim to ascertain the overall number of impacted residents.
