■ Gordon Oliver, pictured, minister emeritus of the Cape Town Unitarian Church, will be speaking in the Chapel Room at Vonke House, 121 Lourensford Road, Somerset West, at 10.30am, on Sunday July 1, on the subject “Faith and Freedom: Fluency in our Faith: A conversation”. Reverend Gordon will discuss the fact that Unitarians are free to determine their own religious journey and quest for truth. However, he says one should not be laid back about freedom or take it for granted: freedom implies responsibility. Reverend Gordon has had a number of careers, most notably including time as mayor of Cape Town, when he marched in protests against apartheid and later introduced the just-released Nelson Mandela to the city. Donations are welcome. For more information on the Helderberg Unitarian Fellowship, contact Dave Mayes at davidjeanmayes@gmail.com
