Rollo Dickson, Somerset West
A card posted two months ago in California, by airmail, isn’t here yet. A local monthly magazine subscription has yielded nothing since February.
The Buy-aid people sent new credit cards in April but we received no notification they were here to be fetched.
The post office in Somerset West, seemingly unsurprised we’d had no mail for weeks, suggested trying another number. It produced interesting sound effects. One heard loud footsteps receding into the distance, and other footsteps approaching from a long way off. Real Goon Show stuff.
A voice that could’ve been Henry Crun said: “ We’ve had no lights, you see, not for a long time. They can’t see to sort, you know.” There must be a mountain of undelivered mail.
Talk about walking backwards for Christmas.
