Vital Health Foods’ 18th annual Spring Classic Golf Day, held on Friday at the Erinvale golf course in Somerset West, raised R180 000 for the Drakenstein Palliative Hospice.
“We were thrilled with the amount we raised for the charity, and were overwhelmed by the massive support from our sponsors and suppliers,” says George Grieve, group chairman of Vital Health Foods.
Among the 128 players who participated in the event was Chester Williams, the much-loved superstar winger of the Springbok team that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup. And 70 sponsors contributed in various ways.
Amelda Potgieter, senior manager of consumer engagement for Vital Health Foods, says, “I always have a brilliant day at the Spring Classic Golf Day, and I enjoy knowing that having fun and being healthy can also benefit a charity.”
The event has raised more than R1 million over the last five years for the Paarl Hospice, which provides free palliative care to more than 300 patients and their families, and helps those affected by HIV and chronic illnesses.
