Full moon hikes at Delvera

■ If you love the outdoors, sunsets and moonrises, the Falke Full Moon Hike at Delvera should be on your December diary, with hikes on December 2, 3 and 31. The scenic 9.75km trail takes you on a climb through the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy to the top of Klapmutskop, with breathtaking panoramic views of the Winelands and Cape Town. Starting from the Dirtopia Trail Centre, it takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach the top, but a shuttle service is available to transport children and elderly hikers to the start of the shorter 4,5km route. This option will take about 30 minutes to the top. It is recommended that you start hiking between 5pm and 6pm, as you will be making your way back down at 8pm to be back at the centre no later than 9.30pm. A special New Year’s Eve Falke Full Moon Hike on Sunday December 31 is a lovely way to bid 2017 farewell. The cost is R150 for adults and R60 for children under 10, and includes glass of bubbly or juice to toast to a prosperous 2018.
