■ The garden of Sylviane Weston will be open to the public on Saturday September 8 and Sunday September 9, from 9am to 4pm, to benefit Helderberg Hospice. Ms Weston grew up in Somerset West, and has seen the village grow from a small, rural, one-road town to the bustling metropolis it is today. A passionate gardener, Sylviane brings touches of her French heritage to her beautiful garden in Parel Vallei, which reflects her stylish flair and elegance. The swimming pool, lined with delightful statues, is a place of beauty and relaxation, and wide, lush lawns lift the eye to the Helderberg Mountain beyond, and the garden is framed with beds containing a wide variety of abundant plant life. This garden also hosts an interesting array of birdlife, such as Egyptian geese, Dikkoppe, guinea fowl, doves, and of course, squirrels. The peaceful hospice garden is also the core feature of the weekend, with teas and treats, plants for sale, and interesting stalls available. Tickets cost R90, from Helderberg Hospice, with vouchers to be won for visiting 10 gardens. Call Cheryl or Celestine at 021 852 4608 or visit www.helderberghospice.org.za
