Eat Out in partnership with Community Chest launched a new initiative called, Eat Out Restaurant Relief Fund, on Friday April 24.Â
The fund, which is administered by Community Chest, aims to support the restaurant industry that has been heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fund will support restaurants, who have reopened their kitchens to create meals for those in need, and the funds received from the Eat Out Restaurant Relief Fund will help them keep their doors open in order to do that.
Managing Director of New Media, which owns Eat Out, Aileen Lamb, said: “This crisis is uniting us like never before, showing our resilience and our humanity. The restaurant industry has been hit hard by the lockdown, yet we are seeing the most extraordinary compassion coming from people in the business who are using their time and resources to feed the most vulnerable.”
Any restaurants which are helping to feed the hungry during the lockdown can apply for grants to help them buy food to cook, as well as to pay staff and rent.
Donations to the Eat Out Restaurant Relief Fund can be made at help.eatout.co.za and all donors will receive Section 18A tax certificates. Fundraising is ongoing.
