Cycling for life

■ The annual indoor Cycling for Life endurance cyclathon in support of Helderberg Hospice takes place on Saturday May 19 at the Sports Hall, Somerset House, Somerset West, from 6am to 6pm. Twelve person teams of cyclists spin on their bikes mounted on trainers for 12 hours to raise funds for Helderberg Hospice. Each team member rides for an hour and the number of kilometres clocked up is recorded in a database. Fitter teams of three riders cycling for four hours each, or the solo category – one rider completing 12 hours alone – can also enter. Team entries cost R3 600 and solo entries cost R500. There will be food and drink on sale, big screen TV and fun activities for children. Many people ride because they have been personally touched by the special care of Helderberg Hospice. Some ride in memory of a loved one, others in solidarity with friends or family receiving treatment for cancer.
