Stellenbosch-based performance artist, Jesyka Sham, is performing the role of the Butterfly in The Story of the Moon with the Grifizzi Brothers Circus at the Van der Stel Sports Club in Stellenbosch until Sunday August 27.
The director of a non-profit company called the Living Arts Foundation situated in Stellenbosch, Jesyka started her own studio called Flying Fitness in Stellenbosch in 2014 and has taught and trained there since.
One of her main projects is Sisonke Social Circus where children from around Stellenbosch get together through circus training.
Her main focus has been on creative directing, choreography and aerial silk acts for Sisonke and she has opened an aerial silks school called Flying Fitness, to the public.
Jesyka is mostly known for her fire dancing which she has been doing for 15 years. She is also a passionate martial artist, training and teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
With her dance and aerial background she took on the challenge of learning the Spanish Web for the show to be the Butterfly. She also is part of the aerial globe trio. She plans to gain lots of experience being part of the Grifizzi Brothers and to go back to her social circus and inspire more children to find their passion for performing and produce artists that can follow their dreams too.
The Story of the Moon is presented on Thursdays at 4pm, Fridays at 3pm and 7pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at noon, 3pm and 7pm.
Tickets cost from R120 for children to R160 for adults, available at www.thegrifizzibrothers.com, and via 071 400 2250. Today, Wednesday August 9, there is a special two-for-one ticket offer for women to see either show at 4pm or 7pm.
