Join wine.co.za’s #tastesunshine Braai Day at The Shed (just off Annandale Road), on Heritage Day, Sunday September 24, for a day of wine, braai, music, good vibes, family fair and games.
The celebrations tie in to wine.co.za’s 21st birthday festivities. The team’s braaimasters will have the coals ready for you – just take your braai goodies or picnic, and be entertained by the Sisonke Social Circus – with juggling, unicycle riding, aerial silks, and more.
There will be guitar sounds by talented local guitarists Mark Wiercx and Henk Theron from Strings Attached and a special first time performance by the Pebbles choir.
Old-fashioned lawn games are provided by local business Tailgating, and there will be activities for the entire family, including candle-dipping, which is a favourite of many children, and is a fund-raiser offered by the Stellenbosch Waldorf School’s Grade 4 class.
Wines and bubbles will be for sale, and eats, ice cream, and coffee from a local roastery.
Music is a big part of the day with the main performance at 4pm, with an exuberant South African Mass, Suiderkruismis, written by Helderberg composer and musician Andre Strijdom.
It is a powerful and beautiful piece of music, written for a large vocal group, vocal quartet, praise singer, orchestra and rock band, and is in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa and Latin, comprising 60 performers from the Helderberg and surrounds.
If you are keen to lend your voice or instrument to the Mass (not necessarily for this performance but for future performances), contact Melanie Williss on 074 137 9674 or email her at melaniewilliss@yahoo.co.uk
The performance also will highlight plans to develop and build a special public psychiatric clinic in the Helderberg, driven by Dr Judith Ludwick.
This Braai Day/Heritage Day/ #tastesunshine event is part of a massive world-wide tasting of South African wines – to get as many people tasting and sharing SA wine on the same day. You could well be trending on the day with your fun pics using #tastesunshine
There are already over 300 people signed up to participate in more than 20 countries — so if you have friends and family all over the world, get them to have their own tasting wherever they are.
