Members of the public are invited to drop off their winter-warmers, or to join Helderberg NGO Masikhule for 67 minutes to knit or crochet, at the Erinvale Hotel, Somerset West, on Mandela Day, Tuesday July 18, between 11am and 2pm. Take your own needles and wool.
They are also collecting beanies and blankets to distribute to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres they mentor in the informal settlements. These pre-schools educate and nurture nearly 2 000 children between birth and six years old.
Masikhule is also teaming up with Erinvale Care and Help Organisation (ECHO) this year, with their Wrap Up and Read campaign, to collect age-appropriate books (hardboard books are welcome).
Those of you who cannot knit or crochet, are encouraged to join in by donating a fleece blanket and/or book, and dropping them off at Erinvale Hotel on Mandela Day.
