I saw the image and caption about the Mzuri development (“R900 million estate to be started in Somerset West”, Bolander May 1).
I just wanted to share that the Lynedoch Eco-Village outside Stellenbosch is actually the first self-sufficient development, in a true sense, in the Western Cape.
On top of that, it is also the first truly
mixed-income community in South Africa, as far as we are aware.
The village is part of the Sustainability Institute, and we manage our own water, waste, infrastructure and are also working towards being energy self-sufficient.
I’m not sure what Mzuri means with self-sufficient in the broader sense, but just wanted to clarify this for what it may be worth.
