A call has been sent out for donations to assist those affected by heavy rains and flooding.
Jo Swart, of the Somerset West Night Shelter, says residents are welcome to use their premises as a drop-off point for donations. There is currently an urgent need to assist victims of flooding with blankets, clothing, food (non-perishable items) as well as bread, milk, baby formula and dog and cat food and bowls.
The Somerset West shelter is located at 71 Church Street, Somerset West, and can be contacted on 072 851 5362.
The Sir Lowry’s Pass Farm Watch is calling for disaster assistance for those who have lost their homes in the area.
Donations can be dropped off at 3 Estate Guard Houses at Knorhoek, Tre Donne and High Riding.
The Farm Watch will arrange for collections later today from these drop-off points and distribute donations where needed.
Those dropping off donations are asked to ensure donations are marked for SLPFW (Sir Lowry’s Pass Farm Watch) as there are disaster relief assistance happening throughout the Helderberg basin.
The team has warned donors to not come through to Sir Lowry’s Pass as roads are flooded and access to the communities are limited.
