The Strand Masters lifesaving team attended the Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Masters championships, held in Fish Hoek on Saturday March 11. The weather was perfect, with a slight swell, and a light offshore breeze cooling down the hot conditions. The Strand team showed their strength and skills and walked away with most of the top awards. Shandor Cylvan, 30 to 40 age group, won the Malibu board and ski events, and came third in flags. Sam Hucke, 30 to 39 age group, came second in the surf swim and third in the flags and sprints events. Daantjie Malan, 50 to 60 age group, won the ski event, came second in the Malibu board event, third in the long run event and ended in fourth place in the flags event. Jamii Hamlin, 40 to 49 age group, won the Malibu board and ski events and came fifth in the flags and long run events. Jamii won silver in the surf swim event. Daantjie, Shandor and Jamii won the Taplin event for their age group, while Mias van der Westhuyzen, Richard Nero and Sam also won their Taplin event. Daantjie, Shandor and Jamii also won the ski relay event.
