Boland Fly Fishing is hosting the 2018 South African Fly Fishing Association (SAFFA) youth fly fishing national championships from Wednesday October 3 to Sunday October 7 at Du Toits Kloof Lodge, outside Rawsonville.
The Cape streams at the Du Toitskloof Lodge and Lakenvlei dam in Ceres will be the venues for the competition.
Teams from Gauteng North, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Western Province and Boland will be competing for the title of national champion.
Seventy of South Africa’s top youth anglers are expected to participate, and this year a team from the Czech Republic will take part in the competition.
The Boland Fly Fishing team consists of anglers from Somerset College, Paul Roos Gymnasium, Parel Vallei High School, Boland Landbou College and the Paarl area.
The Boland team has won the national championships five times since 2009.
Boland Fly Fishing members, Erik Roos from Boland Landbou College and Dylan Elliot from Somerset College, have been selected as Proteas to join the Protea squad that will represent South Africa in Poland in August at the Youth World Fly Fishing Championships in Poland, bringing to 14 the number of Boland Flyfishing members who have been capped as Protea anglers in the youth world championships since 2009.
