Last week, Bolander popped into the Bargain Box on Dirkie Uys Street, Somerset West, to say hello to the tireless volunteers who (wo)man the shop, and to browse for some impromptu items to gift friends and family.
This charming little charity shop is a joint venture between of clubs of Helderberg Rotary, Helderberg Lions and Gordons Bay Lions.
With the help and generosity of the residents and friends of the Helderberg basin, they have been raising funds for local charities and needy causes for over 30 years.
As the season changes you might be thinking of revamping your wardrobe, or spring cleaning your home or perhaps downsizing. If you find you have any previously loved goods you wish to donate, consider donating them to the Bargain Box
All the proceeds are distributed by the clubs to various charities and projects in the basin. The shop is manned by unpaid, dedicated volunteers, and they couldn’t do it without them.
Rejane van der Grijp says: “Please let me express our gratitude to all those who have previously supported us, and thank those in advance who are considering donating to this long established institution, which has been serving the community for over 30 years.”
They welcome all clothing, jewellery, household linen, bric-a-brac, crockery, cutlery, small furniture etc, and the shop is open to accept donations on Thursdays from 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm, on Fridays from 9.30am to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
