Art auction for Goldilocks

■ Works by local artists, including Richard Scott, Kevin Hector, Tony de Freitas, and Anny Maddock, among others, were auctioned recently to raise funds for The Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation, an NGO and PBO that works to remove mental health barriers to education. The event took place in collaboration with the Lindy van Niekerk Art Gallery and auctioneer Anton Welz of Stephan Welz & Co, confirmed that R221 000 was raised at the black tie event, from the artworks and a further R14 300 was raised through cash contributions and pledges. All proceeds will go towards the foundation’s work at underprivileged schools where they provide free screening for ADHD, anxiety, depression, visual- and hearing problems, and developmental problems for children. The work is vital in that it ensures early referral, diagnosis and treatment. The foundation was recently awarded the South African Society of Psychiatrists award for community service.
