Frans Fourie, Strand
I’ve been told by an engineering source that the proposed concrete promenade for the embattled Beach Road between Strand Pavilion and Greenways will
cost in the region of
R60 million and that that kind of money is just not available.
There is an alternative, however. Seaside from Wavecrest and Atlantica a batch of huge boulders was dropped some years ago.
This hastily concocted wall has since been transformed into an attractive and useful part of beach accessories. Indigenous flora is sprouting there seasonally.
What if engineers and landscape artists put their creative heads together and give us a promenade of stone that will enhance the otherwise dull and dreary face of Strand’s Beach Road at a far more realistic cost than the figures that are presently stirring the False Bay cauldron?
