Iluminar Productions and Simonsig Wine Estate are hosting a winter dinner-concert series, with intimate acoustic performances by singer-songwriters on the first Friday of every month until August, at the Cuveé Restaurant on Simonsig Wine Estate.
On Friday July 1, Emile Minnie’s latest offering is a romantic French show, breathing new life into old favourites such as La vie en rose and Je ne regrette rien.
For this performance, Emile will combine romantic French love songs with favourites from his previous seven albums. Tickets cost R150.
And on Friday August 5, Dowwe Dolla will perform, with Margit Meyer-Rõdenbeck, text and lyrics by Jurgen Human, and music and accompaniment by Emile Minnie (no under 12s due to language). In this new “one-women” show, Dolla moves away slightly from politics, “want dis regtig nou boring”, although she can’t help handing out an unplanned “dwarsklap” every now and then.
She reveals the real reason why women still tolerate men in their lives and dissects the South African “braai” from a very delicate and blonde psychological point of view. In the process complicated topics such as trophy hunting, homeopathy, arachnophobia and rabies are put under the spotlight. Tickets cost R200.
There will be an a la carte menu, and guests can arrive at 6.30pm. The shows start at 7.15pm.
