The Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival (SICMF ) takes place from Friday July 5 to Sunday July 14, in the Stellenbosch Konservatorium building at Stellenbosch University. Each year around 300 students enroll to take part. Artistic director Nina Schumann expressed excitement about the newly commissioned work by Antoni Schonken and Arthur Feder, honouring Johnny Clegg. Evening faculty concerts start at 8pm, from Friday July 5 to Thursday July 11. Orchestral concerts start at 8pm, on Friday July 12 and Saturday July 13, with the final concert taking place at 4.30pm, on Sunday July 14. These concerts take place at the Endler hall and tickets for all evening concerts are available from Computicket. The SICMF will again host international celebrities such as Marc Bouchkov, Madeline Adkins and Alissa Margulis (violin), Juan-Miguel Hernandez and Gareth Lubbe (viola), Alexander Buzlov and David Cohen (cello), Uxia Martinez Botana (double bass), Geoffrey Pilkington (French Horn), Ferdinand Steiner (clarinet) and Demarre McGill (flute). Programmes this year will include favourites by Bach, Mandelssohn, Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky, as well as new works by Andrew Norman, Guillaume Connesson, Bruce Adolphe and Matthijs van Dijk. For more information on artists and programmes visit www.sicmf.co.za, or call Fiona Grayer on 021 808 2358.
