The South African pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins will be opening the second season of the Endler Concert Series on Sunday August 14, with a solo piano recital, at 4.30pm.
Prins, winner of the 2015 Unisa national piano competition, has earned a reputation as a pianist of remarkable technical facility and abundant musicality.
The first half of the concert will include Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, one of the 20 pieces for solo piano from Messiaen’s suite Vingt regards sur * ’enfant-Jésus, and Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 4.
In the second half, Prins will perform Haydn’s Sonata in C minor and Brahms’ Variations on a theme of Paganini. Tickets cost R140, and R100 for students and pensioners.
On Friday August 19, at 8pm, the Endler Concert Series is proud to present the Stellenbosch University Jazz Band (SUJB) – which is one of the ensembles formed by the Certificate Programme which was created to equip members of the broader community with skills to read music and play an instrument at a level enabling them to embark on a BMus or Diploma programme at tertiary level.
The programme features Francis Bower on vocals and some jazz standards such as One for my Baby and At last.
The concert will also feature three student compositions for marimba and jazz band as well as a full jazz orchestra including stringed instruments, conducted by Felicia Lesch.
Tickets cost R50, and R30 for students and pensioners, and are available now through Computicket and at the door one hour before the show.
