The Lourensford wine cellar is the venue for the Suiderkruismis concert, on Saturday October 13, where composer, songwriter, musical director, and vocal coach, Andre Strijdom has made his proudly South African Mass available to raise awareness and raise funds for community mental health care in the Helderberg basin during October, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Strijdom based his composition, Suiderkruismis, on the five parts of the traditional Catholic Mass. It combines popular genres to celebrate multicultural South Africa. The mass is sung in English, Latin, Afrikaans, and various African languages.
This masterful work is layered with textures of authentic and classical voices, supported by orchestral as well as rock instruments.
This year the Suiderkruismis ensemble is being joined by the colourful Holy Voices Choir from Asanda Village in Zola. It is a true ubuntu experience that aims to encourage collaborative ventures and raise spirits.
Wine will be on sale before and after the show. Call 021 847 0030 in advance to place an order from the pizzeria or make a table booking at the Millhouse Restaurant.
Seating for the concert is unreserved, and there is no wheelchair access due to the staircase down into the wine cellar. CDs will be on sale and there will be a raffle for a spa day and wine.
Tickets cost R120 and are available from The Life Retreat, Lourensford Estate, Somerset West; Remax, Waterstone; Helderberg NG Gemeente; https://www.quicket.co.za/events/36220-suiderkruismis-lourensford/#/ or R150 at the door.
