Rosanthorn Cello Trio combines the talents of SAMA-nominee Carol Thorns, Cape Town Philharmonic’s Dorette Roos and composer Anjulie Nock, and this world-first all-female electric cello trio will be performing at Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch, on Friday January 25, at 8.15pm.Â
Rosanthorn have set out a compositional and technical journey to explore all that the cello has to offer across multiple genres and timbres, with the help of South Africa’s top composers and producers.Â
Their repertoire includes recordings and re-interpretations of works as varied as Vivaldi’s Double Concerto in G Minor, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek.Â
Their arrangement of Abdullah Ibrahim’s Manenburg and Bright Blue’s Weeping was commissioned for the opening of Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art. Â
Anjulie Nock has composed new works such as Night Journey, and an original tango.
The Parting, by Helmut Meijer, is a reflective, stripped-down, soulful composition which inspired their first music video.
Their concert will feature guest artists singer Zami Mdingi from CODA Africa, and pianist/ violinist Kirsten Adams.
