An early Christmas awaits children at the last full-moon picnic of the year, at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl, on Thursday December 15. Parents should take their children’s gifts to the Visitor Centre beforehand to be included in Father Christmas’ stocking. Father Christmas should make his appearance by 7pm.
Visitors can picnic between 5pm and 10pm, and enjoy the sunset and night time views of the valley. A free guided monument tour will take place at 6.30pm. The Volksmond Coffee Shop also sells pre-ordered picnic baskets, and is open for coffee and light refreshments. Take a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available. Tickets are R25 for adults, R10 for students and R5 for children (free under six years), available from Computicket and at the gate. No booking is required. For more information about events at the Taalmonument, call 021 863 0543/4809 or visit www.taalmonument.co.za
The picnic series is presented in aid of the Taalmuseum’s reading project for children, Let’s Read! Visitors are encouraged to take a new or secondhand children’s book in support of the project.
