Crazy Rhythm: the story of Gypsy Jazz, which tracks the story of gypsy jazz from its origins to the present day, will take place on Wednesday March 20, at Shop 6, Hole in the Wall, 93 Main Road, Somerset West. The performance takes the audience from the first meeting of Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt in 1934 Paris, to the original gypsy jazz currently being played by the Hot Club of Cape Town. The two-hour performance explores the influences that informed the music of Stéphane and Django, from New Orleans jazz to modern classical composers, and sees how the music further changed after Django’s untimely death at the age of 43-and how it continues to evolve. Tickets cost R120, and are available through Quicket (no tickets at door). For more information, email questions@bluevinesmusic.com
