Mario Nell and Winand Grundling present an afternoon of French organ music of the 19th and 20th centuries, performed on the magnificent Marcussen Organ in the Endler Hall, on Sunday November 3, at 4.30pm. On the programme are French solo works for organ, including the evocative Suite Gothique by Boëllmann, and a selection Guilmant’s charming settings of Christmas carols. Great bravura pieces such as Bonnet’s Concert Variations and Duruflé’s Suite will also be heard – works which explore and
unleash the full range of power of the Marcussen Organ. As an exciting closer, Langlais’ Double Fantasy for two organists is sure to make good use of the performers’ four expert hands and four dexterous feet.
Acknowledged as one of South Africa’s leading musicians and teachers, Nell currently holds the position of chair of the Music Department of the Stellenbosch University, and has performed the world over.Grundling is also an illustrious alumnus of the department. Tickets cost R140, and R100 for students and pensioners, at Computicket and at the door. Contact Fiona Grayer at concerts@sun.ac.za or 021 808 2358 for more information.
