One of the most iconic BBC comedies of all time, Allo Allo! is coming to the Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West.
A laugh a minute with silly accents and unforgettably ridiculous quotes, and, of course, the priceless portrait of the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies hidden inside a sausage.
Join them for the German- and French-themed evenings where you’ll get snacks, a drink and the opportunity to dress up!
Allo Allo is up there with Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses and Blackadder as a classic of late 20th century British television, transferred to stage by the original screenwriters David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd.
“If you love British farce, clever dialogue and ludicrously funny characters, you’ll love Allo Allo!,” says Sam West, Playhouse Theatre chairperson.
Café owner René Artois narrates the story for us as he tries to keep his business afloat during the German occupation.
Maintaining a café in war time France is not easy when you have to keep your a’airs with the waitresses, Mimi and Yvette, from each other and from Edith, your wife, while as the same time keeping the original and the forgery of the priceless portrait of “the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies” hidden in separate sausages and away from Herr Flick of the Gestapo.
Not to mention hiding British airmen for Michelle of the Resistance, and keeping in with the local German and Italian commanders, Von Strohm and Bertorelli. And now, Hitler himself is coming to visit…
“If you’ve grown up, as I did, watching this show (or if you haven’t) you will want to find out where you can watch the TV series. Because once you’ve watched this live performance you’ll be begging for so much more,” says director Luke Botha.
Shows take place from Friday October 11, and there are also matinee performances. Tickets are R100 (early bird) and R120.
On Saturdays October 12 and 19, the special-themed evenings are R175 and R195. The show is PG16, and tickets are on Webtickets.
